3 Ways to Take Care of Your Neck and Face

With the dawn of a new year, many people set goals for their healthcare and wellbeing and look for fresh ways to take care of their bodies. Having new ideas and a fresh perspective can help kick start your year in a positive direction, which is where we enter the picture. Here at Renew Medical Spa, we know healthy habits and your wellbeing are holistically linked, so it’s important to look at the big picture.

One way we address holistic patient care is by emphasizing how important it is to take care of the face and the neck. Although many patients know the things they should be doing for their facial skin (such as wearing proper sunscreen, moisturizing and cleansing regularly, and limiting toxins), oftentimes, the neck area is forgotten.

Why is the skin on my neck important?

  • The skin on the head and neck is complex: According to the American Academy of Dermatology, this particular area of the body is rich with blood vessels, as well as lymph nodes. This means that melanoma (a type of skin cancer) can spread more quickly when it is found in the face or neck.
  • The skin on your neck can indicate thyroid problems: It’s important to take care of your neck and know when something doesn’t seem ‘normal’. For example, swelling in your neck can be an early sign of problems with your thyroid (find additional indicators here).

What steps can I take to help protect my neck and face?

Because some patients focus solely on the facial treatments, we recommend viewing the neck and the face as a dynamic duo, linked together and both equally important. Here are some ways that you can improve your neck and facial care as you step into a new year:

  1. Protect your skin from the elements: Even though you may not be able to see the sun, there are still UV rays hitting your skin during the winter months. Wearing sunscreen is a practical idea, but only if you are applying it thoroughly on your face, neck, ears, and anywhere else that is visible. Don’t forget the sunglasses and long-sleeve shirts for added protection. Experts agree that it is a good practice to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen year-round.
  2. Remember that although the neck and face are connected, they need different types of care: Did you know that the skin on your neck is more thin and delicate than your facial skin? Because of this, it can show signs of aging more quickly. If you choose to exfoliate the skin on your face, remember to be gentler with cleansers and exfoliation on your neck area and treat it with care.
  3. Book a matching treatment for your neck, when you book a facial treatment. For the month of January, we are making this step easier for you by saving you up to $1200*. We are currently offering our patients a free matching treatment to the neck when they purchase a procedure for their face (this offer excludes injectables). Our Halo Laser Procedure is included in this offer, and it’s perfect if you would like to see visible results without a lengthy recovery period. After the 30-40 minute procedure, your recovery time can be customized by your provider to suit your lifestyle (ranging from one to four days of downtime). Some of the benefits include: minimizing facial veins, decreasing redness and flushing, or treating sun spots and freckles. You can find out more about the Halo Procedure here.
