Caring for Your Skin in Different Seasons

Just like our mood, our skin is affected by a variety of different factors, including weather, stress, hydration, diet, and exercise.

And just like we adjust our habits to affect our moods, we should also adjust our skin care routine according to the season.

During the winter, it makes sense to treat your skin a little gentler than you normally would. Factors like a lack of Vitamin D and less moisture in the air can make the skin more prone to dryness and redness, so swapping out an exfoliating cleanser for a more gentle gel cleanser and implementing a heavier moisturizer can help your skin to stay healthy during the drier months.

As we shift into spring, our skin care routine should begin to change once more. As flowers blossom and the sun begins to shine more frequently, it may be time to switch to a lighter moisturizer, and to begin implementing a Vitamin C serum and a retinol cream to help protect your skin from harmful UV rays, and to aid in the prevention of wrinkles and lines.

During every season, including an SPF sunscreen in your routine is recommended, but when the sun begins to shine more regularly in the spring, it’s important to be even more diligent in this practice.

This is also an opportune time to begin using an exfoliating cleanser to scrub off those dead skin cells that have accumulated during the winter months.
