Hydroplus Microdermabrasion vs. Renew Microdermabrasion: Which One is Right for Me?

The idea of self-care certainly isn’t new, but it’s gained popularity over the last decade, with Google reporting that searches for “self-care” have doubled since 2015. When dealing with modern stressors like work or parenting, you may wonder if a bit of self-care is in order. Perhaps you’ve hesitated and bought into the notion that self-care is synonymous with self-indulgence. We want to clear this misconception: self-care is not selfish and can help improve many aspects of your life. The Wellness Council of America found that self-care can reduce stress, improve the immune system, increase productivity, and cultivate higher self-esteem.

At Renew Medical Spa, we offer rejuvenating treatments to both body and the mind, giving our patients a welcoming reprieve from stressors in their lives. One of these treatments is microdermabrasion, which can renew the tone and appearance of the skin. We currently offer two types of microdermabrasion: Hydroplus Microdermabrasion and Renew Microdermabrasion. If you’ve been considering booking a rejuvenating treatment, here’s what you need to know about both types:

Renew Microdermabrasion

The general term “microdermabrasion” means using a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand the skin, which removes the thick, uneven outer layer.

This treatment is a popular and traditional form of microdermabrasion. At Renew Medical Spa, we offer the DiamondTome™ System, which is crystal-free and non-invasive. The service includes a relaxing steam, cleanse, microdermabrasion, a hydrating mask, and extractions. Extractions are when your skin care provider uses medical instruments to remove the contents of clogged pores. Usually, the pores are clogged with sebum (an oily, waxy substance produced by your body’s sebaceous glands) and dead skin cells. Removing these creates a more even complexion with fewer breakouts. Unclogging pores can also help skincare products absorb more thoroughly into the skin.

Who is a good candidate for Renew Microdermabrasion?

Some of the benefits of microdermabrasion include treating fine lines, skin texture, age spots or dark spots, uneven skin tone, and acne scars. This is also a good treatment for those with mild acne and rosacea, as it can improve and even out redness. If you’ve had a chemical peel or collagen injections, it’s recommended that you wait 1-2 weeks before your microdermabrasion treatment. If you have severe scarring from acne or other skin lesions, it’s best to speak to our providers to determine your eligibility for this procedure.

HydroPlus Microdermabrasion

This treatment is beneficial because it can be customized for specific skin types. A HydroPlus Microdermabrasion involves a hybrid of exfoliation and infusing serums into the skin. Because the exfoliation prepares your skin to absorb the serums readily, they will penetrate more deeply and enhance their effectiveness. This two-fold process can provide more significant results. This treatment takes approximately 90-110 minutes and involves your skin care provider thoroughly cleansing your skin and exfoliating it with a handheld device. After this step, the custom blends of serums will be applied to the face, and your freshly cleansed and exfoliated skin will be able to absorb them. Serum infusions help new cells grow and give skin cells lasting nourishment. This contributes to the overall appearance and condition of your skin.

Who is a good candidate for HydroPlus Microdermabrasion?

Patients experience improved color, texture, and smoother skin after a HydroPlus treatment. It’s also ideal for patients with wrinkles, fine lines, or environmentally damaged skin. This treatment is non-invasive with no downtime and will promote collagen and elastin regeneration. Although patients may see improvement after just one treatment, we recommend regular sessions for optimal results. HydroPlus can be used for patients with any skin tone or type if you have acne or if your skin is sensitive or dry.

Whether you choose HydroPlus or Renew Microdermabrasion, you can expect positive results from our experienced staff. You will also experience a relaxing and welcoming environment, where our world-class team will help you feel at ease. Self-care can be more than just a day at the spa.
